History of the Liver Bird
The Liver Bird has been the recognised symbol of Liverpool for over 800 years after King Henry III granted our city to be self governing. In order for this new law to be put into place, a unique seal was needed to authenticate documents. And so, the Liver Bird was born! Some legends around the city speak of the birds being a male and female pair, one of which looks out to sea to protect those at sea, and the other looking onto the city to protect Liverpool’s citizens. Long live the Liver Bird!
